BioLogic's Turkey Gold Chufa Seeds For Food Plots
BioLogic Chufas (chew-fa) are one of the most popular plantings for wild
turkeys. Each plant can grow 1-3 feet tall and produce 15-150 fingernail sized
tubers just below the soil’s surface. These small peanut-like tubers are
relished by wild turkeys and ducks. Turkeys scratch the tubers out of the ground
and feed on them from fall to spring. BioLogic has teamed up with the NWTF to
bring you the best quality chufas found anywhere and the information to help
your planting be successful. It is important to understand that chufas require
90-110 frost free days to mature. It is best to select open areas that receive
full sunlight for planting. Sandy or loamy soils with good soil moisture are
ideal.

How To Plant
Biologic Chufa For Turkey Food Plots
Chufas are best planted by preparing a firm seedbed by disking. Then
broadcast the seed at a rate of 40 pounds per acre. The seed should be covered
approximately 1" deep, and this can be accomplished with a cultipacker or by
carefully using a disk to cover them.
When To Plant Biologic Turkey Chufa For Food Plots
Plant BioLogic Chufa in the spring when all danger of frost has passed.
Chufas need 90-110 days of frost free growth to fully mature.
Fertilization For Turkey Chufa Food Plots
We highly recommend a comprehensive
soil test.
Fertilize and lime according to soil test results. For information on soil
testing contact your Cooperative Extension service in your area. Here is a
list of county
extension services by state we have compiled for your convenience.
Your agent should be able to assist you in getting a soil test and pH test.
Management Tips For Biologic Turkey Chufas For Food Plots
BioLogic recommends that you plant BioLogic Chufa every year, but it is
possible to get a decent volunteer stand from the previous year's crop if the
turkeys have not consumed all the tubers. If you have enough chufa left in the
field, you can spread 300 pounds of pH Fertilizer
per acre, thoroughly disk to incorporate the fertilizer and distribute the
chufa seed. We also recommend that you rotate your plots every few years to
prevent soil pests.
BioLogic Clover
Plus makes an excellent rotational crop for chufas and helps to add nitrogen
back to the soil. Weed control is critical to success and several selective
herbicides can help control weed issues. As always, read and follow label
directions.
