CONSERVATION
PRACTICES
| Conservation
is the preservation of wildlife and habitats through
proper usage of our wild lands. Only by managing and
preserving the natural areas remaining can we reduce the
impact of man on our wildlife heritage.

There
are two distinct areas of conservation that occur in
our society today. One is Wildlife Conservation and
the second is Game Conservation. Each has as its end goal
the proper conservation of animals in our wild areas.

- WILDLIFE CONSERVATION |
Wildlife conservation is using
a variety of tools, resources and laws to manage wildlife in a
specified area. A good wildlife conservationist, understands
that wild means some animals will live and some will die. That
is nature and everyday survival for the wild areas. Wildlife
conservation may or may not include management using the hunting
techniques that Game conservation does. However the Wildlife
conservationist still must use the same resources to establish
wildlife through food resource management food plots,
introduction of species and the management of overall game
populations using various techniques.

- GAME CONSERVATION |
Game conservation is also the proper
management using limited resources and lands to
maximize the wildlife population. Over population can have
detrimental effects on future generations of wildlife, especially
in areas with limited food sources. Proper management by
"harvesting" game, using a mature morally fair method of
hunting is the ideal way to manage game. This type of
hunting is balanced against number of game stocked and territories
in addition to the management of food sources through the
establishment of food plots for both natural area game and
specific game animals such as deer quail, duck and turkey.
